Week 12: Away vs. Nebraska

Nebraska’s 3-9 record last season is not a reflection of how tough this team was to beat.

Their losses to Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin football were all by single digits. If a couple of plays went the Cornhuskers’ way, they easily could have pulled off an upset or two.

Nevertheless, the pressure is very much on head coach Scott Frost to turn things around in 2022.

The Cornhuskers will be without four-year starting quarterback Adrian Martinez, who transferred to Kansas State. Martinez was tremendous on the ground but never became the elite passer that his team needed him to be.

To replace Martinez, Scott Frost brought in ex-Texas Longhorn Casey Thompson, who should be a major boost to the Cornhusker offense.

Nebraska’s ability to finish games strong will determine how successful they will be this season. This game definitely has the looks of a potential trap game. This will be a tight one through three quarters, but I expect Wisconsin to stay disciplined and pull out a road victory.

Prediction: Wisconsin 34, Nebraska 24 (8-3)

Week 13: Home vs. Minnesota

The decade-plus history of the Big Ten Championship game has never contained the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The pressure will be on sixth-year head coach PJ Fleck to change that.

For Minnesota to win the Big Ten West, it will likely take a victory in Madison, something that they have only achieved once in the past 27 seasons.

The Gophers will be getting star running back Mohamed Ibrihim back this season after he suffered a season-ending injury. He and sixth-year senior quarterback Tanner Morgan will be the veteran leaders of the Gopher offense.

The Gophers have the potential to have a strong offensive line in 2022 after PJ Fleck signed two graduate transfers in Quinn Carroll and Chuck Filiaga.

They also bolstered their secondary via the transfer portal- adding Ryan Stapp and Beanie Bishop from Abilene Christian and Western Kentucky.

This matchup could very well have implications for the Big Ten West crown. I have a hard time believing that Wisconsin will lose this border battle for the second straight year.
