Texas Football: 2022 game-by-game predictions
By Kathryn Rose
Last year’s Wildcats team went 8-5 and had a net yards per play average that was on the level of conference champion Baylor. A lot of that is due to superstar all-American Deuce Vaughn, who is a do-everything back that electrified the entire conference.
At quarterback, Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez gets the nod. Martinez wasn’t the greatest quarterback in the world for the Huskers, but his running ability should cause more matchup problems for the defense.
Speaking of defense, Kansas State’s was one of the better units in the Big XII and should be again this year.
Texas won a close one in Austin last year and could do the same in this contest.
Prediction: Win (5-4, 3-3)
New coach Sonny Dykes will have the offense working, that’s for certain. It’s just that the defense was heinously terrible, and new defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie is unlikely to help with that anytime soon.
That being said, TCU did grab some transfers to help out, so the defense should be improved from last year. Plus, this team does have up to five guys who could hear their name called in the 2023 NFL Draft, so there is talent here.
It’s just not enough to beat this year’s Texas team.
Prediction: Win (6-4, 4-3)
