1. Northwestern mashed the Nebraska defense like potatoes

Deep in the fourth quarter, up by three points, the Northwestern Wildcats called one play several times over. Inside zone is not meant to be a gash play, but on the final drive, the Northwestern team ran over Nebraska’s three-man front to the point where the Wildcat backs were able to spring themselves free and get first downs.

That was a pattern the entire game. Nebraska never really got home, which allowed the quarterback time to throw, and their backs open lanes to run through.

It’s mighty impressive to see a first-round talent like Peter Skoronski look like the rest of Northwestern’s line, but that’s the level the other four men were playing on. Not that Skoronski was bad in the least. As The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach put it, “can an offensive lineman win Heisman?”

Give it to all five of the linemen, at least for today. They all deserve every piece of credit that one can give.
