1. Vanderbilt is a program on the rise

Coming into camp, Vanderbilt football was excited about what it had this year. That may seem strange for a 2-10 football team that opened with a loss against East Tennessee State last season, but last night’s result confirmed the general optimism around Dudley Field in Nashville.

Vanderbilt will still likely be the SEC’s worst team. There’s no getting around the fact that they just don’t have the same caliber of talent that the rest of the league does.

But, the Commodores offer a run game that can effectively slow down the pace, as well as a defense that can force takeaways. Plus, that run game is anchored by a quarterback who has finally learned to read defenses and come into his own at the position.
