10. Kentucky is a football school

You might have heard Kentucky basketball czar John Calipari a few weeks ago make some interesting comments about his basketball program compared to the university’s football team, saying that the school is a basketball school.

Now I get what Calipari is doing, he’s using his position of power to ruffle some feathers to get a new facility for his team, and likely didn’t mean anything offensive to head football coach Mark Stoops and his program. That doesn’t mean it didn’t tick Stoops and his players off, and they have some real reason to be upset. They also have a heck of a football team on their hands.

When Stoops took over the Wildcat program in 2013, he was taking over one of the worst college football programs in the country, fast forward to nearly a decade later, and his football team stands up to John Calipari’s basketball program. Four bowl wins, including two 10-win seasons, including last year which was punctuated by a Citrus Bowl victory over Iowa.

Heading into 2022, this is shaping up to be Stoops’ best team and their best shot at an SEC title since 1976. The biggest reason? None other than quarterback Will Levis. This 6-foot-3, 230-pound quarterback plays a game that is eerily similar to a guy that’s doing pretty good in the NFL up in Buffalo.

Levis has the size, speed, and arm strength to make all the plays on the football field. It’s the development and decision-making that needs to get better this year. If so, Levis will be a top 10 pick in the NFL draft, and the Wildcats may be looking at a huge showdown in Lexington on Nov. 19, when the Georgia Bulldogs come to town in what may be the SEC East title game.

Football school? Uh yeah.
