18. Who’s taking their jobs?

As coaches fall, new coaches rise to greatness or even more failure, thus is the circle of life in the college football coaching world.

Here are the names to watch as the next men up to take over your favorite program.

Jim Knowles: Knowles turned a Big 12 offensive team into a dominant defensive force that almost went to the CFP. He was hired away to fix the Buckeyes’ defense that failed them against Oregon, Michigan, and Utah. If he can turn the talented unit around, he’ll likely be coaching for a national championship before taking a high-level job a day later.

Josh Gattis: The 2021 Broyles Award winner has left the Wolverines to take his talents to South Beach, becoming the offensive coordinator for Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes. If he can find a similar level of success with Miami, and help them compete for a conference championship, I expect to see Gattis get his share of offers, and he may even jump to the NFL.

Jeff Lebby: The new offensive coordinator at Oklahoma may become the top coaching candidate in college by the end of the season. He’s found incredible success everywhere he’s been, from Baylor, to UCF and from Ole Miss to now Oklahoma. The offensive guru creates an easy and explosive offense for his quarterbacks and will have the most talent at his disposal yet. A Big 12 championship or a CFP appearance, and Lebby will be as good as gone.

There are plenty of great options, but these three coordinators are likely the top choices for all teams looking for new leaders this winter.
