25. Who can win the whole thing?

It may anger or bore people, but I truly believe only three teams can win the national championship in 2022. Yes, it’s the same teams you love to hate every January, but they are that good and will be there at the end of this season as well.

Drum roll, please.

Georgia: The reigning champions lost a great deal from their defense, but still have the pieces capable of winning the title. Stetson Bennett needs to improve, and if Georgia can find a way for Brock Bowers and Arik Gilbert to control the game offensively, I like the Bulldogs’ chances with Kirby Smart reloading his defense.

Ohio State: I actually thought long and hard about who to put here. I really like the Buckeyes this season, and they are actually my pick to win the national title. I just don’t think they have the best shot to do so. The offense will be electric, and the defense should get much better under Jim Knowles. Their schedule is tougher than usual, and that will help them.

In 2020, they got bullied by Alabama in the national championship. In 2021, Michigan bullied them. Ryan Day is one of the best, but he needs his team to find that toughness they have been lacking if they want to make the final jump and avenge their past losses.

Alabama: What more is there to say? Saban, Young, Anderson, revenge, it’s all there. The Tide have just about everything the greatest teams have, elite quarterback and pass rush play. If they get the answers to the few holes they may — may — have on their roster, then they will go undefeated and have a 2020 type of dominating season, something that is expected in Tuscaloosa. Make no mistake, the Crimson Tide are the overwhelming favorites to win it all.

There it is, the top 25 storylines of the season. Let this season be full of fun, health, chaos, and all the joy that this special sport brings us.

Here’s to the college football season.
