Texas A&M Football: Can King carry the Aggies to a successful 2022?
By Shelbie Warr
It took forever, but the Aggies have a starting quarterback and once again it is Haynes King. Can King lead Texas A&M football to what should be a successful season?
The 2021 season was anything but predictable for the Aggies. With losses to LSU, Mississippi State, and Arkansas that no one expected, but a win over Alabama that brought them to an overall 8-4 record, things were not what they were supposed to be after being just left out of the Playoff in 2020.
Zach Calzada, who is now at Auburn, filled in for an injured Haynes King from the middle of Week 2 onward and things were just not going as well as they could have been. However, it would seem that things are back on track and a top-ranked recruiting class is thrown in, so maybe the Ags are on their way to a big season.
They do lose guys like DeMarvin Leal, Michael Clemons, Isaiah Spiller, and Kenyon Green. That is nothing to blink an eye at.
Those guys are not easy to replace, but they do bring in that top-ranked recruiting class that can easily fill in some holes and helps out in the grand scheme of things, but now it is really time to put up or shut up for Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies.
They may have through 2023 to finally break the seal and move into that College Football Playoff, Tier 1 kind of program, but many are getting impatient.
Now that we know a starting quarterback and games are right around the corner, things are starting to become clearer for the Aggies. Let’s talk offense, defense, and my predictions for the schedule.
