“Watch it” games

NC State vs. East Carolina (12 p.m. ET) on ESPN

There’s a whole ton of hype around NC State, with some putting them in the conversation for a playoff spot, should they stop NC State-ing themselves. Meanwhile, this East Carolina team is dangerous in Greenville, and Mike Houston’s squad should throw for a whole bunch of yards. If NC State wants to show itself a true ACC contender, this is a good game to start with.

North Carolina vs. App State (12 p.m. ET) on ESPNU

North Carolina did not look crisp at all against a depleted Florida A&M team, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They gave up 335 yards against a team that was missing 20 scholarship players, even though they put up an astounding 601 yards themselves. Drake Maye looked good in his first start, but going up to Boone is a challenge for any team. Appalachian State will have to replace a lot of defensive pieces, but this is still an upset special.

Keep an eye on it

South Dakota State vs. Iowa (12 p.m. ET) on FS1

This isn’t last year’s South Dakota State team, as there’s no Pierre Strong running the football, nor is there quarterback Chris Oladokun throwing the ball this year. Still, the Jackrabbits are always dangerous and have some guys that could be on an NFL roster next year. Iowa, meanwhile, comes in feeling like a team in need of a rebuild. This one could get close.
