Maryland took care of business against MAC foe Buffalo 31-10 Saturday afternoon in College Park. The Terps mainly got it done on the ground with running back Roman Hemby picking up most of his 114 yards on his two touchdown runs.

Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 290 yards but threw a pick and no touchdowns. He will need to clean that up as the Terps move forward. The Terp defense was decent, allowing only 10 points and 268 yards total. They should be able to fine-tune their game even more next week as they take on Charlotte.

Iowa won a game in the most Iowa way possible. Looking at the final score of 7-3 you would think the Hawkeyes scored the lone touchdown of the game. You would be wrong. The Hawkeyes won on the strength of one field goal and two safeties.

Iowa’s defense and special teams appear to be spectacular once again. The defense smothered South Dakota State all game. The punting unit pinned the Jackrabbits deep in their own territory for the most part.

The Hawkeyes’ offense looks to be terrible once again. Quarterback Spencer Petras only completed 44 percent of his passes with an interception. Iowa’s inept offense is the reason for their drop in the rankings this week. It is not going to be any easier next week as they host rival Iowa State.

The Golden Gophers got a shutout in their first outing of the season, taking down former Gopher coach Jerry Kill and New Mexico State 38-0. Kill had to leave Minnesota due to worsening health issues so it was an emotional return for him.

New Mexico State is rebuilding and Minnesota took full advantage. Mo Ibrahim, returning from his season-ending injury a year ago, seemingly looked like he never left. He found the end zone twice with 132 yards on 21 carries.

The Gophers controlled the clock with 297 yards on the ground, eating up nearly 45 minutes of game time. Minnesota hosts Western Illinois next week.
