5 teams on upset alert in College Football Week 2
No. 10 USC football (-10.5) at Stanford
The first big test so far for USC football under Lincoln Riley comes Saturday night against the Stanford Cardinal who haven’t lost at home to the Trojans since 2014 and only once in the six games played there since 2010.
However, Stanford has fallen on hard times and isn’t the program it once was under David Shaw, although they are working to get back, and upsetting USC would be a good start.
The Cardinal won 42-28 last year in Los Angeles and that seemed like the beginning of the end for Clay Helton.
This USC football program also isn’t the program of Helton anymore. The Trojans looked mighty last week in a 66-point performance against Rice and like the only Pac-12 team capable of contending for the College Football Playoff.
That being said, Stanford will be at home and quarterback Tanner McKee is better than most people realize. He’ll keep Stanford in the game and the running game might be just good enough to keep Williams on the sidelines and the game close until the fourth quarter.
If that happens, you never know but there’s a reason Trojan fans are worried and if they aren’t, they should be.
