Army Football: 3 Takeaways from Black Knights’ home opener

2. Frank Harris was a one-man show again for UTSA.
Army had a great game plan for UTSA’s offense. The Roadrunners struggled to sustain drives in the first half due to tremendous pressure by the Black Knights and some mistakes in the first half. In addition to seven first-half penalties, quarterback Frank Harris missed some key throws early in the game.
Whatever head coach Jeff Traylor said in the locker room worked because the Roadrunners looked significantly better in the second half than they did in the first half. Harris began to get in a rhythm in the second half, and the Roadrunners used their size advantage on the perimeter to get back into the game.
Wide receivers Zakhari Franklin, Joshua Cephus, and De’Corian Clark combined for 27 catches, 324 yards, and three touchdowns as they put themselves between the defender and the ball brilliantly in the second half.
Defensively, the Roadrunners began to bring more pressure when Army attempted to throw in the second half and did a better job of getting off the field on third down in the second half of the game. The defense’s ability to counter what the Black Knights did offensively while keeping the run game bottled was the story of the second half.
