2. Matt Campbell, Iowa State HC

Everyone has had Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell leaving Ames since he began having success there. It is no secret that Campbell is a midwest guy and wants to coach in the Big Ten. There might be no sitting head coach more of a cultural fit for Nebraska than the Cyclones’ head coach (sorry, Iowa State fans).

Nebraska is Iowa State with a ton more money and resources. The recruiting footprint is poor, like in Ames; the big difference is the history. That said, Campbell would not have to change his approach much and has more resources at his disposal.

If there is one thing that the Cornhuskers are missing is a strong culture and development. Campbell seems like the type of coach wanting to rebuild Nebraska’s historic walk-on program and invest in player development.

Campbell could get better players at Nebraska by default just because the Cornhuskers have more reach than the Cyclones. The football program would have an identity. Iowa State has hung its hat on being physical in the trenches and able to run the football and play tough defense, two things absent from the Nebraska program under Frost.
