14. Boston College: (0-2)

Boston College’s offensive line woes continue as they fell to Virginia Tech 27-10. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec was sacked five times, and the Eagles rushed for four yards against a Hokies defense that is not very deep.

The Eagles look for its first win against FCS opponent Maine before a four-game stretch that includes Florida State, Clemson, and Wake Forest. This could get ugly.

13. Virginia: (1-1)

New Virginia head coach Tony Elliot had to know there would be an element of rebuilding in Charlottesville. The former Clemson offensive coordinator wants to run the football, and Virginia could not run last season.

The Cavaliers ran for 42 yards in its 24-3 loss to Big Ten foe Illinois. Thirty-one of those yards came on one play. Elliot might be in for a bigger build than he thought.

12. Georgia Tech: (1-1)

Georgia Tech notched its first win of the season against Western Carolina 35-17 on Saturday. That said, Jeff Sims threw for a pedestrian 100 yards against a mid-tier FCS opponent. If the Yellow Jackets can’t do any better, it will be a long season in the ATL.

The Jackets complete its non-conference schedule against #22 Mississippi and Central Florida. Both games look like losses right now.

11. Virginia Tech: (1-1)

The Hokies looked significantly better against Boston College than they did against Old Dominion. Virginia Tech’s performance against BC is either encouraging or a warning sign. Under former coach Justin Fuente, the Hokies would play to the level of its competition.

The Hokies were as flat as Coach Cut’s day-old beer against the Monarchs but looked crisp against BC. Let’s see how ‘Tech comes out against Wofford next week.
