Rose Bowl: Utah v Michigan

Nothing changes this week for the 109th Rose Bowl.

The Utah Utes rebounded from their devastating loss in week 1 at Florida, by destroying their in-state brethren Southern Utah 73-7. You could tell Utah was looking to take out some frustration from the week before, and boy did they. QB Cam Rising threw for three touchdowns while the Utes rushing attack ran for nearly 250 yards. Like we said last week, this team is really good and still may have an outside shot at the playoffs, but I see them ending up in Pasadena rather than the playoffs.

Michigan looked strong in their week 1 victory over Colorado State, and they may have even hit another level this week. After senior QB Cade McNamara started in week 1, J.J. McCarthy started in week 2 and ran away with the job.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out for the team going forward. Will McNamara transfer, or will he stay and wait for an opportunity? We’ve seen this scenario tear teams apart, or unite them, so we’ll have to wait and see. What is clear, is that McCarthy and his mobility give the Wolverines the extra juice they may need in the biggest moments in the big games.

This game features two teams that are good enough to make the playoff, but just barely miss out. While it might now be their desired location, the Rose Bowl will make for an incredible matchup between two great teams.
