Big Ten Football power rankings: Nebraska hits new low, others drop in Week 2
By Shane Lunnen
After their heartbreaking loss to Penn State a week ago, the Boilermakers took out their frustration on Indiana State. They got the shutout 56-0.
Like Rutgers, Purdue did what an FBS team is supposed to do against an overmatched FCS opponent. The Boilermakers could do nothing wrong, marching up and down the field to 545 total yards. Charlie Jones looks like a bona fide star with his 133 yards and three touchdowns. He already has equaled his 21 receptions from all of last season with Iowa.
Purdue will step back up with tougher competition next Saturday as they travel to take on Syracuse. The Dome is not an easy place to play.
Maryland pretty much was able to do what they wanted to offensively to an outgunned Charlotte team. The Terps won 56-21 on the road.
A week ago Taulia Tagovailoa failed to complete a touchdown pass but threw four of them against the 49ers. He also threw just shy of 400 yards. The Terps also added 193 yards on the ground and controlled the game.
Maryland has not been challenged yet. Next week they host SMU and quarterback Tanner Mordecai will be a good test for them.
Wisconsin had a 14-7 lead over Washington State at halftime. However, the Badgers could not add any points in the second half as they fell to the Cougars 17-14.
The Badgers controlled the pace of the game, possessing the ball for over 38 minutes, and they outgained the Cougars 401 to 253 total yards. Unfortunately for them, the only thing that matters is the final scoreboard.
Wisconsin does not seem as powerful upfront as typical Badger teams are on both sides of the ball. Wisconsin is used to dominating the trenches and imposing its will on teams. They will need to readjust and get back to their style of play next week against New Mexico State.
