Another week, another easy win for the Wolverines. This time over Hawaii 56-10. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy completed all but one of his 12 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. After the game, Jim Harbaugh named McCarthy the starter for their Week 3 game against UConn.

Unless McCarthy and Cade McNamara looked drastically different during practices, McCarthy being named starter is a decision that should have been made before the season started. He’s just a more dynamic player and gives Michigan an extra dimension under center. If the fans saw it then surely former quarterback Harbaugh saw it.

With the Wolverines not facing a Power 5 opponent in non-conference play, we are not going to find out how good this team is quite yet. McCarthy though is the right choice at quarterback moving forward.

No change in the top spot this week. The Buckeyes had a much easier time against Arkansas State than they did against Notre Dame. Although now the win over the Irish may not be as significant after their upset loss to Marshall.

With Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Flemming both sidelined with injuries, Marvin Harrison Jr took full advantage. He became C.J. Stroud’s go-to target, hauling in seven receptions for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Stroud threw four touchdowns total and looked more comfortable than he did in Week 1.

Ohio State has one more tune-up game on the schedule, a home game against Toledo before they open up Big Ten play by hosting Wisconsin. Are we heading towards another Buckeye versus Wolverine showdown for the Big Ten East title? Time will tell but for now, these two teams are the best in the conference.
