Jackson State football’s defense dominates vs. Grambling State
By Dante Pryor
What’s next for Grambling State?
On a macro level, Grambling knows how wide the talent gap is between them and Jackson State. Head coach Hugh Jackson has done good work recruiting in his first year as head coach of Grambling. It will take some time, but the most recognizable HBCU should be able to compete on the recruiting trail with Jackson State.
In the game context, quarterback Quaterius Hawkins needs to improve his accuracy. Hawkins missed too many open throws. He’ll learn you can miss when you don’t have room for error. Jackson is one of the best quarterback coaches in FCS so Hawkins will get the development.
What’s next for Jackson State?
The Tigers have defeated the three most formidable opponents, scoring over 50 points against FAMU and Grambling. Jackson State will be heavy favorites against every team they play for the rest of the season. Every team in the SWAC will struggle to block them and contain quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
While teams that make the Celebration Bowl make more money to play in the game, it is unfortunate this Jackson State team won’t have the opportunity to play in the FCS playoffs and possibly play North Dakota State.
