Ranking the College Football Week 3 upsets: Arizona State, Northwestern and Kansas State stunned
No. 1. Eastern Michigan at Arizona State (-20)
Arizona State football has been plenty of ups and down during the Herm Edwards era. There have been some great wins, plenty of off-the-field issues, and a whole lot of controversy.
Well, Eastern Michigan finally put Arizona State football out of its misery as the Eagles destroyed Edwards’ defense on the Sun Devils’ home field to win as 20-point underdogs.
The Sun Devils and Eagles each had one turnover. The difference in the game was Samson Evans and his 258 yards on the ground. He got 36 carries and his longest run of the day was 32 yards. So basically every time he touched the ball, he was getting chunk plays.
Only his first 25 carries this season only netted 108 yards. Louisiana stuffed Evans the week prior and allowed him just 19 yards on 10 carries in a 49-21 win for the Rajun Cajuns.
Evans didn’t even hit 100 yards against Eastern Kentucky. But against Arizona State football, he looked like he belonged in the NFL. The Eagles opened a 10-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Sun Devils never got closer than three and now, Edward’s time with Arizona State football has come to an end.
