ACC Power Rankings Week 4: Florida State wins thriller against Louisville
By Dante Pryor
8. #13 Miami Hurricanes (2-1)
The Miami Hurricanes looked overmatched in its first challenging game of the season. Head coach Mario Cristobal coached very conservatively in this game. The game plan looked similar to the Oregon vs. Auburn game from a couple of years ago when he was conservative.
That said, it was hard to trust Miami’s wide receivers in this game, which was true. Miami receivers caught barely 50 percent of its targets. If there is one place, the Hurricanes need to improve its receiver.
7. North Carolina Tar Heels (3-0)
The Tar Heels were off this week ahead of their Saturday afternoon game against Notre Dame. UNC has had a week to prepare for Notre Dame, but maybe the Irish were the team that needed the extra week of preparation.
Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye has been outstanding in his first three games as the starting quarterback, throwing for 930 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Irish might stand a chance of scoring some points against a defense that allowed 40 points in the fourth quarter to Appalachian State.
6. #23 Pittsburgh Panthers (2-1)
Head coach Pat Narduzzi got to play his type of game as the #23 Pitt Panthers got their revenge win against the Western Michigan Broncos 34-13 in Kalamazoo. Led by running back Israel Abanikanda’s 133 yards, the Panthers ran for 238 yards and two touchdowns. They needed the run game to come through without quarterbacks Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti.
Defensively, the Panthers had three interceptions and two sacks, holding the Broncos to 180 total yards, a far cry from last season when they gave up over 500 yards in the upset loss. The Panthers play Rhode Island next week before opening conference play against Georgia Tech.
