Big 12 Power Rankings

5. #9 Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0)

The Pokes want to remind everyone that they played for the Big 12 title last season and came within a yard of winning. Quarterback Spencer Sanders wants everyone to know he has another level to his game. Oklahoma State is off this week and opens its conference season on October 1 against #17 Baylor.

4. Iowa State Cyclones (3-0)

The Cyclones won the Cyhawk trophy for the first time since 2014 had has followed that win with a 43-10 thrashing of the Ohio Bobcats. First-year starter Hunter Dekkers has been outstanding early in his career, and wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is a legitimate NFL prospect. Their game against #17 Baylor this weekend could be the game of the weekend.

3. #22 Texas Longhorns (2-1)

The Longhorns did an excellent job of not allowing the Alabama Crimson Tide to beat them twice. UTSA had a 17-7 lead, but the Longhorns proceeded to outscore the Roadrunners 34-3 the rest of the game. Texas plays Texas Tech on the road this weekend. This game is essential because the Longhorns have had a bad habit of playing down to its competition in conference play.

2. #6 Oklahoma Sooners (3-0)

The mark of a good head coach that is a defensive coach by trade is their ability to allow the offense to find its identity. That is exactly what first-year head coach Brent Venables is doing in Norman. Everyone knows what Venables’s calling card is; its defense. Jeff Lebby is allowed to cook, and his reunion with UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel has worked so far this season.

After dominating Nebraska at Lincoln, the Sooners host Kansas State in its season opener.

1. Kansas Jayhawks (3-0)

The Kanas Jayhawks will remain number one in these rankings until they lose a game; the apparition of Bud Wilkinson said it was okay. Seriously, this is one of the best stories thus far. The Jayhawks are not winning with luck or good fortune either. They hang around and find ways to outplay their opponents in the fourth quarter.

This week they play another of the better stories in college football, the Duke Blue Devils. This game is a battler of undefeated folks; we ain’t talking the Final Four either.
