No. 24 Texas (-7) at Texas Tech

Obviously, Texas fans will feel much better about this matchup if Quinn Ewers is starting instead of Hudson Card. Ewers showed something early in that Alabama game and if he wasn’t hurt, it’s my bet that the Longhorns would have pulled that upset. We don’t know what will happen but CBS Sports reports he will travel and dress for the game.

UTSA gave the Horns a little trouble last week but people shouldn’t dismiss that program. They also shouldn’t dismiss the Red Raiders. Tech lost by 13 last week against North Carolina State and that’s probably one reason why some might not love this upset pick.

But the Longhorns haven’t proven they can be consistent yet, especially on the road. I could easily see Texas finding a way to win this game but if Ewers does play, he could be a little rusty and the Red Raiders are allowing just 2.8 yards per attempt on the ground.

They have also played essentially two Power-5 level teams. Houston isn’t technically in the Power-5 until next year but the Cougars are a good team, despite what happened last week against Kansas (an upset we predicted).

Average teams play better at home and if Donovan Smith can avoid the turnovers and play better than he did last week, the Red Raiders should definitely make this interesting. They are going to have to contain Bijan Robinson though.
