3. Takeaways for Clemson

Many have called for quarterback Cade Klubnik to replace DJ Uiagalelei this season. The incumbent has played well this season, getting better every game. Today was his best game of the season. Uiagalelei was efficient and saw the field as well as he has all year. Most importantly, he’s taking care of the football by not turning it over like he did last year.

If there is a concern about the offense, the offensive line still has some issues with both run and pass blocking. The offensive line is not finishing blocks or mauling defensive linemen. Wake Forest did show many different looks up front, but Clemson’s line did not move people today, which has been a concern all season.

The same could be said about Clemson’s defensive line. The Tigers could not win consistently at the point of attack on offense or defense this afternoon. The defensive line often did not get into the backfield to disrupt Wake Forest’s downfield passing game. The lack of pressure forced Clemson football to blitz and play man coverage, and the Deacons took full advantage.
