College Football Week 4 winners, losers: Harsin survives, MSU humbled
College Football Week 4 Winner: Auburn football coach Bryan Harsin
Just before kickoff on Saturday, reports emerged that Auburn Head Coach Bryan Harsin could be fired if his team lost to Missouri.
I was on record last week saying Harsin would likely be the next big Power 5 coach to be fired during the season and it nearly came to fruition this week.
Missouri had a chance to win the game as time expired but missed a 26-yard field goal to force overtime. Auburn scored a field goal to go up 17-14 and then Missouri’s Nathaniel Peat had a 19-yard run from Auburn’s 20 and fumbled it. Auburn recovered and won the game.
Bryan Harsin will likely live to fight another day as the Head Coach at Auburn—for now.
College Football Week 4 Loser: Washington State
Wazzu had the Ducks’ number almost the entire game: they led for all but the the final 1:21 of the game.
Up 34-22 with 6:42 left in the game, Washington State allowed Oregon to score 22 unanswered points in the final 3:38 of the game, falling 44-41.
Oregon’s Bo Nix got red hot and ended up with 428 passing yards and 3 touchdowns against a Cougars defense that previously had not given up more than 227 passing yards in a single game.
Just two weeks after defeating No. 19 at Wisconsin, the Cougs looked like they’d notch another top-20 win, but floundered in the fourth quarter.
