College Football Week 4 winners, losers: Harsin survives, MSU humbled
College Football Week 4 Winner: Kansas State QB Adrian Martinez
Nebraska transfer QB Adrian Martinez had the game of his life in the upset over No. 6 Oklahoma: passing 21/34 for 234 yards, 1 TD and 0 INT; 21 carries for 148 yards, 4 TD.
It was an emphatic response to losing to Tulane last week from the AAC. The Wildcats took care of the ball, recorded zero turnovers and controlled the time of possession (35:04) vs Oklahoma.
If it weren’t for that loss last week to Tulane, these Kansas State Wildcats might be considered one of the best teams in the country after pulling off the huge upset on the road against the No. 6 team in the country.
Martinez had not quite posted the same type of numbers that he did as a Cornhusker, but he’s making his impact on the game in multiple ways and getting results for Kansas State. A huge day for the Senior quarterback.
College Football Week 4 Winner: Oregon State Beavers
Even though Oregon State lost, they pushed the No. 7 USC Trojans to their absolute limit. These Beavers look like the real deal and one of the best teams from Corvallis we’ve seen since 2012 when OSU won nine games and appeared as high as No. 7 in the AP Top 25 that season.
Four turnovers absolutely crushed the Beavers’ chances against upsetting USC. It was uncharacteristic for QB Chance Nolan, who is not one to usually turn the ball over. His four turnovers against USC was nearly half the total of the picks he threw for the entire 2021 season.
Despite the loss, this is a message to the rest of the Pac-12: the Beavers are back and you need to take them seriously.
