College Football Week 5 winners, losers: Oklahoma, Houston in free fall

Winner: Illinois Illini

Illinois entered their Week 5 contest against Wisconsin having lost 11 of their previous 12 meetings. But, this week the Bret Bielema-led Illini played their best game of the 2022 college football season and were able to upset the Badgers in Madison.

It started with the team’s defense, which held Wisconsin to two total net rushing yards all game. They also managed to pick off QB Graham Mertz twice and impose their will on a Badgers team that couldn’t do much of anything all game.

Illinois used a 20-0 run in the second half and four rushing touchdowns to improve to 4-1 this season.

Winner: Alabama QB Jalen Milroe

Alabama QB Bryce Young went down with an injury against Arkansas and in came backup Jalen Milroe. He was able to fend off a furious Arkansas comeback, who went on a 23-0 run before the Tide settled down and burned the Hogs for two touchdowns within the first four minutes of the fourth quarter.

Milroe came up huge in guiding the offense, especially in the fourth quarter. He provided some big plays threw the air on the ground, finishing with 65 passing yards and 1 TD plus 6 rushes for 91 yards and 1 TD in the 49-26 routing of the Razorbacks.

Winner: Georgia Tech

Just days after firing their head coach, Georgia Tech comes out and shocks the college football world by upsetting No. 24 Pittsburgh on the road.

The Yellow Jackets forced Pitt into three turnovers and made them pay for it, turning those turnovers into 13 points. Georgia Tech wore down that Pitt defense by recording a total of 44 carries for 232 yards and a touchdown in the 26-21 upset over the Panthers.
