1. Georgia Tech at Pittsburgh (-21.5 points)

Brent Kay was pretty emotional after his Georgia Tech team won and it was easily the biggest upset of College Football Week 5.

Sometimes, you can predict an upset or two and most weeks, we try to do just that with our upset specials. I didn’t get to it last week but there’s no way that Georgia Tech over Pittsburgh would have been on my list.

The Yellow Jackets just fired head coach Geoff Collins and were facing a top-25 opponent just a few days later. Nebraska was in the same spot a couple of weeks ago against Oklahoma, on its home field and was destroyed 49-7.

You could easily see something happening to Georgia Tech, which hasn’t won more than three games in years. However, the Yellow Jackets were inspired and they rushed for over 200 yards against Pitt. Georgia Tech also forced three turnovers. Pittsburgh also committed 12 penalties.

Jeff Simms only threw for 102 yards on 11-of-26 completions. However, he didn’t turn the ball over and ran for 81 on the ground (including a 42-yard run).

We’ll see if Tech can build on the win but it was impressive nonetheless and tops our ranking of College Football Week 5 upsets.
