Sugar Bowl

Kentucky v Oklahoma State

Previous: Kentucky v Oklahoma

As the Sooners defense pays homage to Lincoln Riley, their in-state rivals take their place in our projected Sugar Bowl.

As Georgia continues their march toward another playoff berth, and Texas loses again at Texas Tech, we project the Sugar Bowl to turn into the Stoops bowl. The younger brother of Oklahoma legend Bob Stoops, Mark Stoops would become a legend in Lexington if he can get his Wildcats to a NY6 bowl for the first time since 1976.

The Wildcats lost in heartbreaking fashion at Ole Miss in the final minute. If not for a late penalty, Kentucky wins that game. I still think they’re going to beat Tennessee and I have a sneaky feeling they’re going to push Georgia to the brink. With Will Levis looking like a top 5 pick, I project them getting the Sugar Bowl nod.

Representing the Big 12, the Cowboys of OK State sent a message to the league when they handled the reigning conference champs, Baylor, on the road 36-25. The offense doesn’t always look that pretty, and the defense has continued to dominate from last year.

There are still plenty of difficult games left on their schedule, but for now, the Cowboys are the safest bets for New Orleans.

A Sugar Bowl between Will Levis and the Oklahoma State defense would be a fascinating matchup, as a big-time performance could land Levis the top overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
