Pac-12 football power rankings: UCLA making huge moves
By Dante Pryor
6. No. 21 Washington (4-1, 1-1)
The Huskies lost its first game of the season last Friday night against UCLA 40-32. Michael Penix, Jr. did throw two interceptions, but the defense was awful against the Bruins. Dorian Thompson-Robinson had a career day against the Huskies. The Huskies will rebound with three winnable games on its schedule against Arizona schools and California.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer has to be somewhat concerned about the defense allowing 124 rushing yards to Zach Charbonnet yet only rushing for 65 yards themselves.
5. Washington State (4-1, 1-1)
The Cougars rebounded after its close loss to Oregon with a 28-9 throttling of California. Head coach Jake Dickert has to love how his defense held California phenom running back Jaydn Ott to 69 rushing yards after he went off for 274 yards against Arizona. One cause for concern is quarterback Cameron Ward.
Ward has stabilized the position, but he’s thrown seven interceptions this season. Ward needs to decrease the number of turnovers if the Cougars want any chance to compete for a conference title.
4. No. 12 Oregon (4-1, 2-0)
It is somewhat ironic the Ducks let the offensive coach go to Miami, hire the defensive coach from Georgia, and score over 40 points in every game this season. Transfer quarterback Bo Nix has been more consistent under offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. Nix is completing more passes and has thrown fewer interceptions this season.
Oregon travels to Tucson to take on the Wildcats this weekend.
