3 takeaways from Tennessee Football’s domination of LSU
3. Josh Heupel is looking elite
Speaking of Heupel, his college football coaching record is really impressive and it’s time he gets his due for being one of the best in the game.
He’s not among the elite guys quite yet. It takes winning at least a major conference championship and making the playoff to earn that sort of distinction, but of all the new additions in the SEC over the two years, Heupel looks like the best of the lot.
Brian Kelly will need more time to turn things around at LSU and Heupel had some moments like Saturday last season. Kelly will need to develop Walker Howard and if he hits on him, then the future outlook gets much brighter.
Jayden Daniels has been solid and the Tigers will have a fine season. Tennessee is just better all around than people give them credit for and it showed Saturday.
Heupel is 11-6 at Tennessee and 37-14 overall as a head coach. He’s got an American conference title and it only took him two short seasons to coach the Vols back into SEC title contention.
If the Vols win next week over Nick Saban and company, the debate about him being considered an elite head coach will probably be over.
