Michigan vs Penn State: 3 takeaways from Wolverines win over Nittany Lions
2. We Need to Pump the Brakes on Nick Singleton
Nick Singleton was the #1 running back in his class. The expectations were sky-high for the freshman, and they’ve been largely met coming into today.
While splitting carries with Kaytron Allen, Singleton rushed for over 300 yards in four games, including 124 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn. There were shades of Saquon Barkley at times, and Singleton was tabbed as the next big thing in Happy Valley.
While Singleton will likely have a great career, he’s not there yet. Held to just 19 yards today, Michigan’s defense was a test he had to pass to gain national recognition, and it was not a test he passed.
This game isn’t going to stand in the way of him putting together a solid season, however, he’s not anywhere near something like All-Big 10 level yet.
