Orange Bowl

Wake Forest v Penn State

Previous: NC State v Penn State

We talked last week about the concerns of NC State heading to Syracuse, and they were founded. With the loss to the Cuse, we are dropping the Wolfpack out, and projecting the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to South Beach.

After a tough loss at home to a really good Clemson Tigers team 51-45 in 2OT, the Deacons have taken care of business and appear to be the second-best team in the ACC.

While Syracuse has been a great surprise story, the Deacons are a legitimate NY6 team with a unique and explosive offense led by Sam Hartman.

As Clemson takes the Atlantic division of the conference, Wake Forest takes advantage of not playing in the conference championship and getting to represent the conference in the Orange Bowl for the first time since 2007.

James Franklin and his men from Happy Valley are probably relieved to be in a position to make a NY6 bowl game, after the beatdown they took in Ann Arbor.

The challenge was difficult, but it was clear Penn State didn’t match up at all with the Wolverines. The road doesn’t get any easier, as Penn State will host Ohio State in two weeks. An upset win and the Big Ten could be thrown on its head. A loss, and as long as Penn State wins out, they should be in a good position to head to Miami.

One team to look at as a possible replacement if Penn State stumbles? Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss.
