2. BYU at Liberty (3:30 p.m. ET – ESPNU)

BYU spent a lot of their early season ranked in the top 25, but has lost back-to-back games against Notre Dame and Arkansas to knock them down a rung.

BYU’s defense got particularly torched in their most recent matchup, giving up 644 yards and 52 points against an average Razorback team. That’s a lot, especially for a defense that has consistently allowed around 20 points all season. Quarterback Jaren Hall had a great game, throwing for 356 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to keep up.

The Cougars, and especially the defense, will have to rebound fast as they face off against Liberty, one of the top Group of Five teams in the country and an underrated threat. At 6-1, with just a one-point loss to No. 13 Wake Forest, the Flames can hang with anyone.

Kaidon Salter and Johnathan Bennett have both been able to step in for Baylor transfer Charlie Brewer, who got hurt in their first game of the season. Their running back committee, primarily featuring Dae Dae Hunter and Shedro Lewis, has been great as well, tallying up over 900 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Liberty has a chance to solidify itself as one of the top Group of Five teams in the country. This is extremely important for them, as only one gets a New Year’s Six bid, so this becomes a must-win for the flame. BYU, on the other hand, desperately needs to turn its season around. While their schedule will ease up a bit going forward, they really only have one gimme game left on their schedule against Utah Tech.

A win or loss this week for either team will change the trajectory of their season. Both teams will play up to that standard. Watch for a great one.
