Odds, predictions and upset alert for College Football Week 8
College Football Week 8 upset alert
No. 7 ole Miss at LSU (-1.5)
Even the oddsmakers are giving LSU a pretty good chance of pulling off this upset. Jayden Daniels has been really good for the Tigers with 10 touchdown passes and just one interception. He also has over 400 yards on the ground too and six TDs. Ole Miss has its own dual-threat QB in Jaxson Dart who ran for over 100 last week. The Rebels also have two elite running backs but night games at LSU are always tough and LSU will ride that wave of emotion to Brian Kelly’s first big win as head coach.
Minnesota at No. 13 Penn State (-4.5)
The fact that Penn State is only a four-point favorite tells you that maybe this team isn’t as good as we thought. The Nittany Lions were exposed last week and while no team is likely to run the ball as well as Michigan, Mo Ibrahim has to be licking his chops. The Nittany Lions’ talented freshman backs led by Nick Singleton probably are too. Both quarterbacks can also be very good and very bad. I’m going to say Penn State wins (barely) but that the Gophers cover. It also wouldn’t shock me if Minnesota upset Penn State straight up.
Purdue at Wisconsin (-1.5)
This is a game of unranked teams but really, Purdue losing would be an upset to me. The Boilermakers are leading the Big Ten West right now with Illinois and need to be able to beat a mediocre Wisconsin team on the road. The Badgers didn’t look great in a loss last week but mediocre teams play well at home and if Braelon Allen can get going on the ground, Graham Mertz should find success against Purdue. Just about everyone else has throwing the ball.
Jim Leonhard will have his defense fired up and this is a battle of elite play-callers (Jeff Brohm and Leonhard). Wisconsin will find a way at Camp Randall and Leonhard takes a huge step toward securing the job.
