3. Oklahoma State football is Still a CFB Contender

The Pokes are three points away from being undefeated. Texas might’ve been the toughest test left on their schedule, and if they can go into Manhattan and beat Kansas State, there’s a good chance they can run the table.

More than likely, this would put the Cowboys in a rematch against potentially unbeaten TCU. A win in that game, a game they were inches away from winning last year, would make them a one-loss, power five conference champion.

Whether that puts them in the top four is anyone’s question, but we can speculate a bit and look at the teams currently ranked ahead of Oklahoma State football.

#10 Oregon beat ninth-ranked UCLA today, giving both teams one loss. Every team in the Pac-12 now has at least one loss, meaning the conference champion will at best be neck-and-neck with OSU.

#7 Ole Miss lost today, and #8 TCU would have to lose to Oklahoma State, so those two would be jumped. At least one of #2 Ohio State and #4 Michigan will lose, and with both being in the same division, the loser probably won’t make the playoffs.

#1 Georgia, #3 Tennessee, and #6 Alabama are all elite, but we will not see three SEC teams in the playoff; if I had to bet, two of them make it. Add in the winner of Michigan/Ohio State, and there’s one spot.

If Clemson, which has looked vulnerable, drops a few games or doesn’t win its conference, that last spot is wide open. Oklahoma State could very well be in the mix and has a chance at its first College Football Playoff berth.
