ACC Power Rankings: Clemson survives thriller; Miami plummets
By Dante Pryor
10. Pitt Panthers (4-3, 1-2)
Panthers’ head coach Pat Narduzzi is now convinced that their win against Virginia Tech was a dream because their 24-10 loss to Louisville was a nightmare. The running game was the catalyst for the offense against the Hokies, but it could not help the Panthers score against the Cardinals. It is difficult to score when you commit seven penalties and turn the ball over four times.
9. #24 North Carolina State Wolfpack (5-2, 1-2)
This weekend’s game against the Hokies will be interesting for the Wolfpack. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck has had an off-week to prepare quarterback Jack Chambers for this game and the rest of the season. North Carolina State has a championship-level defense, and if the offense can score in the mid-20s, they could win another game or two and get to a bowl.
8. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-4, 2-2)
The Yellow Jackets have some semblance of life but need quarterback Jeff Sims to have any hope of going to a bowl game this season. If Sims plays against Virginia, they win the game. Sims has had an up-and-down career but gives the Yellow Jackets the best chance to win. Backup quarterback Zach Gibson had 99 passing yards in their loss against the Cavaliers.
The Yellow Jackets have played harder under interim coach Brent Key but need their starting quarterback to win any other games this season.
7. Louisville Cardinals (4-3, 2-3)
The Cardinals have found a way to get off the mat and play better. They’ve won their last two and three of their previous four games. Their win against Pittsburgh was crucial for their postseason plans. That said, the back half of their schedule is brutal. Their last five opponents are ranked or have been ranked at some point in the season.
