Heisman Trophy watch 2022: Top 5 candidates heading into Week 9
3. Bryce Young, Alabama
At one point, we dropped Bryce Young all the way to a tie for fifth in our 2022 Heisman Trophy rankings but after two solid performances, he’s on the way back up.
Young and Alabama didn’t win the game against Tennessee but he played like a Heisman Trophy winner and if Alabama makes the field goal, he’s probably back at the top of this list.
Winning shouldn’t matter that much but it does. It especially matters when another Heisman contender beats you in the same game with a drive in after taking over with 19 seconds to get his team a game-winning field goal.
Hendon Hooker has been outstanding this season and that’s why Young is sitting third. There will be time to change it but it’s going to take Alabama winning out and Young torching the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC championship game as he did a year ago to repeat as Heisman winner.
