Auburn Football: 3 best fits to replace Bryan Harsin as head coach
By Dante Pryor
2. Todd Monken, Georgia OC
Alabama coordinators Bill O’Brien and Pete Golding could also be in play here because if you are Auburn, there is nothing wrong with plucking from the two elite trees in your conference. If you wanted to go young but with more pelts than Kenny Dillingham, Kendal Briles from Arkansas could also be a candidate.
However, when you think of Auburn, you think about a challenging, physical running game. From Bo Jackson to Carnell “Cadilac” Williams and Cartavious “Tank” Bigsby, the Tigers always have good running backs. That makes Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken a viable candidate for the Auburn job.
Georgia’s offense is not explosive, but they are dangerously efficient. Monken would restore the physicality in the trenches lacking in Auburn for some time and fix recruiting in Atlanta with his ties coming from Georgia.
An old saying is, “if you can’t beat them, join them.” Auburn hasn’t beaten Georgia in quite a while, and taking a coordinator from the Bulldogs’ staff to coach against Saban and Smart would be, well, smart. Hiring Monken would not be the super splashy hire, but neither was Dabo Swinney, Josh Heupel, or Pete Carroll.
Those hires worked out just fine.
