Auburn Football: 3 best fits to replace Bryan Harsin as head coach
By Dante Pryor
1. Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss HC
Major universities do not hire coaches for their troll factor, but Lane Kiffin to Auburn would be something else. Seriously, no coach makes more sense for the Tigers than Kiffin. The former Tennessee and USC head coach has proven he can compete and adapt in the SEC West with fewer resources than most of his opponents not named Mississippi State.
Not only can Kiffin recruit, but he can also recruit the transfer portal, and he has embraced Name, Image, and Likeness for players. Auburn is looking to turn their roster and on-field results quickly, and Kiffin could be the coach to get that done. Kiffin could use the attention from being a candidate — and he’ll be a candidate for the job — as a parlay for an extension from Mississippi.
The Rebels are off to their best start since 1962 and are ranked in the top 20. Mississippi controls its destiny in the SEC west and looks like it will play in a New Year’s Bowl for the second consecutive season.
Kiffin seems to love life in Oxford, and Rebels’ fans have embraced him. That said, Kiffin has the Rebels close to their ceiling, but the ceiling at Auburn is a National Championship, something Kiffin might not be able to turn down.
