4. Maryland

Current record/rank: 6-2 (3-2 Big Ten), Unranked
Projected record: 8-4 (5-4 Big Ten)
Best win: Michigan State (27-13)

Maryland was a darkhorse team in the Big Ten this year, and although the Terps are not contending for a title, I could see Maryland football winning eight or nine games all said and done. Maryland’s offense has been very good to this point, and oddly enough its defense has also been solid. So far the Terps are having a historic season, though its toughest battles may be yet to come.

Earlier this season Maryland was handed its first loss of the season, a 34-27 loss at Michigan. despite losing the football game, the Terps gave Michigan its biggest scare of the year and came away with its pride — something no others that have visited the Big House in 2022 can say.

The Terps second loss came against Purdue a few weeks later, though all that watched know that was anyone’s ballgame. Maryland has a few decent wins this year such as 27-13 win over Michigan State and 38-33 win at Indiana. I don’t think Maryland will compete for a major bowl games any time soon, but right now I would not be shocked if the Terps had a season like Purdue did a year ago (9-4, won Music City Bowl over Tennessee).

Maryland’s next four are tough: at Wisconsin, at Penn State, vs Ohio State, and vs Rutgers. I see at least one win (Rutgers) right off the bat, though I could also see the Terps potentially beating Wisconsin this weekend. After losing to Michigan State in overtime, I have no reason to have faith in the Badgers right now, so I will go with a strong 8-4 finish for Maryland.
