Michigan Football: 3 Reasons the Rutgers win is important
3. Michigan Continues to be on a Collision Course with Ohio State
This seemed like it would be obvious coming into the week, but after Northwestern played Ohio State close and Rutgers led Michigan at halftime, both results could’ve very well ended differently. Both teams prevailed though, which is likely in both’s best interest and continue to work towards an undefeated matchup on November 26th.
Looking ahead, Michigan has both Nebraska and Illinois at home left. Nebraska is coming off three straight losses and is 3-6 on the season. Illinois has been the best team in the West, however, they just lost to the worst team in the East, Michigan State.
The Buckeyes, on the other hand, have Indiana at home and Maryland on the road. Indiana hasn’t won since week three and should be a cakewalk. Maryland is 6-3 and gave Michigan fits, but I don’t see Ohio State dropping this one.
After Tennessee, Clemson, and Alabama all lost, these two will almost certainly be ranked in the top three when they play each other, should they win out. Georgia isn’t going anywhere, so it won’t be a 1 vs 2 matchup, but it will certainly be thrilling nonetheless.
