Rose Bowl

Oregon v Penn State

Last week, we changed our Rose Bowl projections, and then saw Oregon lose a heartbreaker at home to rival Washington. Even with the loss, we still are holding to our Oregon v Penn State Rose Bowl projection.

It appeared after Penn State got wrecked by Michigan and finished poorly against Ohio State, that they’d be on the outside looking in on the NY6.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and James Franklin and his Nittany Lions look like they’re going to finish 10-2. This all comes down to how competitive the Ohio State and Michigan game will be, as well as results in other places, but we’re projecting them to represent the Big Ten conference in Pasadena.

Another impressive season from Franklin, who’ll no doubt be courted by schools and possibly the NFL leading up to the Rose Bowl.

For Oregon, the loss was yet another late-season upset, keeping the Ducks out of the CFP. While those dreams are gone, they still control their destiny to a conference championship. First, they’ll need to slay their most recent thorn, the Utah Utes. Utah ruined not only Oregon’s playoff hopes last year, but also embarrassed them in the conference championship. A win there and at #23 Oregon State, and we’re projecting the Ducks to rebound and finish strong.

I don’t know about you, but a Rose Bowl matchup between veterans Bo Nix and Sean Clifford seems like a fun way to bring in the New Year. This would also be a rematch of the 1995 Rose Bowl, an important moment for both fanbases. It signaled the beginning of Oregon being a power while Penn State has not reached that moment since.
