College Football Week 12: Bold predictions and upset alerts
College Football Week 12 upset alerts
Texas (-9.5) at Kansas
Both teams come into this matchup at 6-4. The Longhorns aren’t quite out of the mix in the Big 12 title race. If they win out, Kansas State drops a game and Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State, the Longhorns would be back in the No. 2 spot. However, Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks, despite being 9.5-point underdogs are going to win. Devin Neal will go over 1,000 yards and backup QB Jason Bean, who has played well, continues an incredible season for the Jayhawks by hooking the Horns in Lawrence.
Wisconsin (-10.5) at Nebraska
This game won’t have any College Football Playoff implications, however, it could impact two head-coaching searches. Mickey Joseph probably isn’t going to be the guy at Nebraska but after getting his starting QB back in Casey Thompson, the Huskers are going to end a 10-year losing streak to Wisconsin and put Jim Leonhard’s job in jeopardy. The Badgers need a win to be bowl-eligible and Nebraska’s defense, which has been better of late, holds Braelon Allen under 100 and wins the game outright.
1. Georgia (-22.5) at Kentucky
Don’t do a double-take. I don’t think the Wildcats are going to upset the Bulldogs straight up. However, after losing at home to Vanderbilt, I do think Kentucky is going to play much better this week.
It’s been a disappointing season for the Wildcats who enter the game at 6-4. There were ranked just outside the top 10 at one point. However, they have a solid defense and a good head coach in Mark Stoops plus Will Levis, a potential first-round pick at quarterback.
Kentucky will play inspired ball and keep things close against Georgia before the Bulldogs pull away and win by 2-3 scores.
Yet, Kentucky hangs around enough to cover the spread and put a scare into the Dawgs.
14. Ole Miss (-2) at Arkansas
I’m going to pick one ranked team to lose to an unranked team in College Football Week 12 and it will be the Ole Miss Rebels. They battled Alabama a week ago and with the SEC West out of reach and Lane Kiffin flirting with Auburn, Arkansas takes advantage.
The Razorbacks need a win to become bowl eligible. Arkansas lost to LSU 13-10 a week ago but this week, Arkansas will be the more motivated team and Sam Pittman’s crew beats the Rebels.
