3. Citrus Bowl

The most likely destination for Penn State if everything holds the way it currently looks is the Citrus Bowl. When does college football play out as it should? There certainly could be changes in the next two weeks. But the way it stands now, the Nittany Lions would head to Orlando.

Taking on an SEC team in the Citrus Bowl is not a bad consolation prize for what should be a 10-2 team. The Citrus Bowl is the best non-New Year’s Six bowl game. If Penn State finishes with an upset loss to Michigan State, the Citrus Bowl will probably be a lock at that point.

The Nittany Lions have an under-.500 record in the Citrus Bowl. Their most recent appearance was at the conclusion of the 2018 season, where they fell to Kentucky 27-24.

Penn State last won the Citrus Bowl, then called the Capital One Bowl, in 2010. The Nittany Lions defeated LSU 19-17 in a sloppy and muddy game. Because of the poor condition of the field, this was the last time the game was played on natural grass. Since then the playing surface has been artificial.
