1. Implications of The Game

Today’s win by the Wolverines put them in the conference title game and in the driver’s seat for the college football playoff. If Indiana wins the Old Oaken Bucket game, Michigan plays Illinois. If Purdue wins, then Michigan plays the Boilermakers. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, an upset loss in the title game all but eliminates them from the playoff.

The Buckeyes need some chaos in order to sneak in the backdoor of the College Football Playoff. Ohio State would need TCU, and USC to both lose. They would likely need Clemson to lose as well, despite the fact they lost today against South Carolina. The Buckeyes are eliminated from the playoff for all intents and purposes.

The possibility of another “Ten Year War” should have college football fans excited. Jim Harbaugh with consecutive wins after losing his first six against Ohio State could mean this game could decide the Big Ten Championship for years to come. Even with USC and UCLA moving to the Big Ten in 2024, The Game could decide one of the participants of the title game for years to come.

There are some Ohio State fans who could feel John Cooper vibes from Ryan Day. Cooper was 2-10-1 against the Wolverines in his career. Some of those teams that lost to Michigan had Eddie George, Joe Germain, and Terry Glenn. Today’s game felt similar to the 1995 Michigan win.
