C.J. Stroud, Ohio State

For the second straight year, Michigan ended the Heisman Trophy hopes of C.J. Stroud and regardless of what happens this weekend, he won’t be winning the award.

I do think it’s possible that he gets on enough ballots to finish as the runner-up. The injury to Corum makes it hard for him to pass Stroud.

The numbers are impressive and he is tied for the lead in college football in touchdown passes this season with 37. But two of his six interceptions came this weekend against Michigan.

The Buckeyes’ high-powered offenses only managed three points in the second and the truth is, if you play for Michigan or Ohio State, you almost can’t win the Heisman Trophy without winning that game.

Eddie George did do it back in 1995 but he didn’t allow over 300 yards rushing in that 1995 loss to Michigan. Stroud threw for a bunch of yards but couldn’t execute when it mattered and he wasn’t even the best QB on the field in the biggest game of the year.

He’ll head to New York, I believe, but he won’t win the Heisman.
