3 takeaways as Kansas State football beats TCU for Big 12 title
By Dante Pryor
1. What’s next?
The next part is simple for one team and a bit more complex for the other. The following things for Kansas State football are simple; they are going to the Sugar Bowl to face a representative from the SEC. Usually, it is the SEC champion, but Georgia is in the Playoff. Kansas State will play either LSU, Alabama, or Tennessee.
The SEC usually sends the championship runner-up/division champion, but they can send another representative if they choose. What will be intriguing is whether or not Adrian Martinez is healthy. If he is, Chris Klieman has another tool to throw at an SEC defense.
Things are a little bit more complex for TCU. They were third in the last Playoff ranking, but there is some question as to where they’d end up since they lost this afternoon. If you contrast their resume with either Ohio State or Alabama, it is comparable, if not better, than either team. What the committee has to decide is whether or not it is better to lose early or lose late.
The Horned Frogs have five top-25 wins; its only loss came in overtime on a field goal to the 10th-ranked team in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Neither Ohio State nor Alabama has the number of top 25 wins. Ohio State was blown out at home against Michigan, and Alabama has two losses.
