Brennan Armstrong – Notre Dame

The Irish are going to need a veteran quarterback after Drew Pyne left via the transfer portal. Tyler Buchner is expected to start the Gator Bowl and he could wind up being the full-time starter next season.

Yet, the Irish don’t want to just give him the job. Jack Coan was a great move in 2021 and he nearly led Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff.

Armstrong struggled last season under a new head coach but in the year prior to that, tossed 31 touchdowns. He also ran for over 250 yards that season, so he’s got the dual-threat ability and while there has been smoke about Hudson Card to Notre Dame, Armstrong seems like a better overall fit to me.

Card feels like more of a backup, while Armstrong is a guy you probably get knowing there’s a decent chance he’s your starter and if Buchner beats him out, then you know you have something.

However, that competition might not be what Armstrong wants — you never know, but I believe that he would be worth pursuing.

And if he’s a better version than Jack Coan, Notre Dame could be a real playoff contender in 2023.
