Top 5 landing spots for DJ Uiagalelei in college football transfer portal
By Dante Pryor
1. UCLA Bruins
Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is gone after this season, and head coach Chip Kelly needs another signal caller. DJ Uiagalelei is a SoCal native, and UCLA is in his backyard. The system Kelly runs is ideal for Uiagalelei’s skill set. Kelly might not run him as much as he did Thompson-Robinson, but he’s had success with quarterbacks that are not natural runners.
Uiagalelei needs a reset, and there is no better place to reset than home. UCLA is a 30-minute drive from his native Bellflower, California. Kelly’s system also fits Uiagalelei’s strengths. He’ll have a consistent running game (much like he did at Clemson) and a route tree that fits what he does best as a passer.
UCLA is a good fit because he won’t be the biggest show in town. The view of Uiagalelei is microscopic. The Bruins are behind the Trojans and Dodgers in LA, and not having to be the most essential player in town could be a good thing for him. It was evident in 2021 and at times this season that he was in his head.
Home is where the heart is, and home could be the ideal landing place for DJ Uiagalelei.
