Dan Mullen

I don’t think that the biggest names in the college football coaching world are going to be clamoring to get the Purdue job, but one name that’s enticing, to me at least, is Dan Mullen.

The former Florida head coach had the Gators basically one win from the College Football Playoff in 2020 before the bottom fell out last season. However, he coached Florida and Mississippi State to 10 bowl games and a 7-3 record in those games. That’s a sign of a good coach to me.

Mullen is a Pennslyvania native and was on the staff with Urban Meyer at Bowling Green. He also worked at Notre Dame, so he gets the Midwest.

The current TV analyst has a 103-61 record and coaching at two SEC programs, that’s pretty solid. He did a good job at Mississippi State and even if some people don’t believe he’s an elite head coach, he would do a really solid job at Purdue.

Mullen is an offensive-minded head coach too, which fits the mold of Purdue. There are obviously plenty of names out there but in terms of where Purdue is right now, Mullen would be a great guy to keep the momentum going.

And after winning at Mississippi State, he’s shown he can win at a place that isn’t considered a football power and for all those reasons, he would be a good hire for Purdue.
